TENNANT CREEK - PIONEER OPEN AIR - TENNANT CREEK B&W.jpg

Good morning Greg,

A Great Read and I loved the added extras you have included.

A wonderful history of an often forgotten part of our country

and its cinema history. I can relate to the Alice details quite well, as

the last time we were in Alice, we stayed

at a motel around the corner from the Pioneer (YHA Hostel),

and walked past it quite a few times.

G'day Greg. I am writing to say how much I enjoyed your superb book  "They built an empire".

Having visited all the towns and seen all the movies mentioned, the added details were very much appreciated.

Congratulations on the wonderful research and effort you put into the endeavour.

PIONEER C & W

Hi Greg. Just a brief note to say how much I enjoyed THEY BUILT AN EMPIRE. Congratulations on a fantastic piece of research, amazing, and I'm so pleased you chose to tell the story in book form. The subject is clearly to big to be covered else where, in Cinema Record, for example, even over several editions. I liked the easy-to-read typeface too. The whole JEDDA story I found really interesting, enjoying it on its first release. I think it was at the Camden, Caulfield where I first saw it. Or was it a Hoyts release? I remember also seeing WALK INTO PARADISE (1956), also at my local theatre, the Camden, and how impressive to see such a rarity, like Jedda was, an Australian film. We really were starved for Australian cinema in those years, long before the Australian Film Commission and the State Corporations. Chauvel and Robinson really struggled back in the day. So, Greg, thanks for filling in this missing piece of the Australian film story jigsaw puzzle. Outback now has a new meaning. Best wishes.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

What an inspirational and interesting book by Greg Lynch. I couldn't put it down. I knew nothing about the Northern Territory

cinema history and was absolutely fascinated by the pioneering family's who built the Picture Gardens and Drive-ins - A great read and

thoroughly recommended.

AL DAFF. DOWN UNDER iN HOLLYWOOD-LAND

I have just flicked through the Al Daff book and I can tell I’ll really enjoy it. Some great work there in capturing the industry and Al’s success in it during that wonderful era. A story that needed to be told and if not by you, then no-one!

— David Kilderry

Great job GREG , the cover looks very impressive - The story of Al Daff's career is fascinating. The contrast between the production standards and the "studio system" of those years and what is in place now was very evident. I found the added details of the 3D screenings in Australia very interesting as well

— Mike Trickett

I certainly found the book both an interesting and an informative read, particularly the Widescreen and 3D developments. Greg
you have covered a lot of territory, all of which makes a big contribution to recording cinema history and the Australian connection.

I couldn’t put the book down… a compelling and interesting read with breath-taking research about the life and times of an inspirational achiever - Greg Lynch has written a great book that features some truly magnificent Cinema Industry photos
- I can't wait to see what he does next.
